Daughters of Mary St. Mary’s Province is one among the 6 provinces of Congregation of the Daughters of Mary (DM). Congregation of the Daughters of Mary is a missionary congregation of Pontifical Right according to Canon Law CCEO 505(2). It is founded by Monsignor Joseph Kuzhinjalil, a zealous missionary priest of the Archdiocese of Changanassery, with the Paternal Blessings of the Servant of God and Architect of the Reunion Movement Archbishop Mar Ivanios in Syro Malankara Catholic Church on 8th May 1938 at Marthandom, in Kanyakumari District. The primary mission of the congregation is to bring Good News to the poor and neglected, concentrating families for their integrated development as well as to announce the Gospel of Christ to the end of the world, to foster unity.
The Congregation of the Daughters of Mary is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Lady of the Harvest. Her Motto is “That All May Be One”(Jn:17/21). It is governed by Codex Canonum Ecclesiorum Orientalium (CCEO ), Decrees and decisions of the Holy Apostolic See, by its Constitution and by the Directory, by decisions of Synaxis and by Superiors in accordance with the Gospel, in the Spirit of the Church and the Charism of the Congregation.
DM St. Mary’s Province Pongummoodu, Trivandrum establishes her life and ministries in accordance with the above said spirit and Charism of the Congrgation.
The patrons of our congregation and its models of holiness and apostolic life are: The Blessed Virgin Mary, the congregation’s mother and protector, who responded to the call of God the Father with a spotless life and unconditional surrender. Saint Francis of Assisi, the congregation’s primary heavenly patron, who made Gospel the rule of his life; embraced poverty; lived an evangelical life; preached to everyone about the love of God and entrusted himself totally to God’s providence. Following his example the congregation has adopted the Franciscan Spirituality.
Saint Joseph, who lived humbly and worked assiduously. Saint Thomas, the Apostle of India, who courageously proclaim Word of God. Saint Paul, the great missionary, who laid his total life for proclaim Word of God. Mar Baselios and Mar Ephrem, Fathers of the Eastern Church, whose and life and writings enrich the Church. Saint Therese of Lisieux, and Saint Francis Xavier, patrons of missions who saved thousands of souls for Jesus in cloistered life and active life respectively. Saint Alphonsa, the first saint of India, who made her life as a sacrifice of love, through all her sufferings out of love of Jesus.
